History of The River Cruise Singapore

The Singapore River was once a bustling trade centre, with godowns full of products located along the river’s quays and barges sailing up and down the waterway.

From the 19th to the 20th century, these wooden boats known as tongkangs (sea-going barges) carried goods along the Rochor, Kallang, and Singapore rivers.

Since 1987, Singapore River Cruise has been conducting trips on the Singapore River, allowing travellers to see contemporary Singapore from the rear of a bumboat.

The Singapore River Experience is a one-of-a-kind experience that combines Singapore’s history and modernity in one activity, taking you on an unforgettable journey along with the city’s signature areas of Clarke Quay, Boat Quay, and Marina Bay.

Take in the magnificent heritage of Raffles Landing, admire Marina Bay Sands®‘s towering modern architecture, and learn about how our city was born from a river.
